Celebrating Without Guilt

Today was a rare gift—a quiet day with minimal responsibilities and only one appointment, a follow-up visit for my son at the doctor’s office. With next week promising to be a whirlwind of activities—homeschool co-op, basketball season, art classes, and music lessons—I decided to take this day to recharge and prepare mentally for the busy days ahead.

While my boys attended a drop-off program, I spent my time homeschooling my daughter, knowing that her co-op will add a new layer of structure starting next week. I used today to focus on myself, setting goals, reflecting, and preparing to balance all the moving parts of family life.

Mindful Adjustments to Stay on Track

Today went smoothly, and I completed all my goals—except for finishing my gallon of water! Journaling my progress helps me reflect on what went well and where I can improve, but I’m writing early so I can make time for later.

Day 10 of 75 Hard Challenge

Tonight is special because I’ll be celebrating a dear friend’s birthday with a night out. This gave me the chance to practice flexibility in my routine. Normally, I eat between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m., but the birthday dinner starts at 6 p.m. Instead of feeling restricted, I adjusted my six-hour eating window to include the celebration.

Even though I love having sake with Asian food, I’ve told myself I’m not having alcohol tonight. Instead, I’ll prioritize mindful eating. My plan is simple: enjoy one serving each of protein and seafood, supplement my plate with unlimited vegetables, and allow myself one small bowl of rice (brown if available). For dessert, I’ll savor a single serving of the birthday treat. By creating a clear, specific plan, I’m setting myself up to enjoy the evening guilt-free.

Treating Myself Without Guilt

I’m learning to shift my mindset from “cheating” to “treating” myself. This reframing feels liberating—it’s not about deprivation but about mindful indulgence. My Bible study recently touched on walking in righteousness, and I’m reminded that if I make intentional, disciplined choices, I can stand confidently in them. This ties into the lessons I’ve taken from Atomic Habits: tracking habits and making plans as clear and actionable as possible.

For tonight, my focus will be on celebrating my friend and prioritizing her over the food. I’ll enjoy the moments, make wise choices, and treat myself with kindness. This day of reflection and mindful planning is exactly what I needed before next week’s busyness begins.
