Lessons from Late Nights

Last night was a blast! Birthday karaoke fun kept me out late, and by the time I got home and in bed, it was well past midnight. Naturally, I planned to sleep in as much as possible. But my body—and Storm, my determined pup—had other ideas. Even at 5 a.m., he was at the bedroom door, huffing and gruffing as if to say, “Time to get up!”

Still, I bargained for a little more rest. “Up on the bed you go, Storm!” I managed to stretch it to 7 a.m. before diving into the morning routine. With a busy day ahead, including a 2025 Vision Board event at a local craft store with my daughter, I made sure to hydrate extra before heading out.

Create Obvious Visual Cues

This morning’s lesson from James Clear couldn’t have been more fitting: Create obvious visual cues. He emphasizes that our environment is the invisible hand shaping our behavior. Since most of how we perceive the world is through our sensory system—especially our dominant visual system—it’s no surprise that motivation alone isn’t enough. Instead, we need to design environments that guide us toward the right choices. Because let’s face it: life is hard enough. Sometimes, we look for the easier choice because it’s the one that makes us feel good right now.

This idea pairs perfectly with a Bible lesson I’ve been reflecting on today: walk in peace despite the constant challenges and temptations of life. It’s so easy to follow what feels good for the moment, but we’re meant to strive for what’s right.

75 hard challenge day 11

Journaling as a Path to Reflection

Journaling has been a game-changer for me. It allows me to organize my thoughts and reflect on whether my actions align with my values. It’s a tool I’m grateful for, especially on days like today when exhaustion tempted me to call it a rest day and reset my 75-Hard Challenge.

I’m also chalking up this feeling to starting my menstrual cycle yesterday. I typically stay home and do nothing for at least two days when I start.

But I’m pushing through. I’ve discovered a newfound joy in writing and planning, and these small victories keep me motivated. Despite the late night, the early morning, and the temptation to pause, I’ve completed today with all my goals met once I finish my last workout of the day (and after I finish this blog!).

On to the next day of the challenge—stronger and more determined than ever!
