Today was one of those days where I felt a little more tired than usual. After an early wake-up call at 3:30 a.m. thanks to my dog, Storm, I struggled to get back to sleep. Even cuddling him didn’t do the trick. By the time my alarm officially went off at 4:30 a.m., I was already feeling the weight of the day. But as always, I powered through.
The Importance of Morning Quiet Time
Starting my morning with two uninterrupted hours of quiet time has become a cornerstone of my routine. It’s during these moments that I find clarity and prepare my mind for the day ahead. Without this time, I often feel anxious, scrambling to fit all my goals into the few hours between dinner and bedtime. This morning’s quiet time may have been a little hazy, but it still served its purpose.

After getting the boys to school, my daughter and I worked on her schoolwork before heading to volunteer at our local food pantry. Volunteering always gives me perspective and gratitude, even on my most exhausted days. From there, the day became a blur of activities: cooking and prepping extra protein for the kids, gym time with the boys while my daughter had tennis practice, and then church youth group. Now, as I sit to journal, I’m struck by how full the day was, even though I didn’t feel rushed. I was able to keep a sense of calm about me.
Finding Inspiration in Resilience
Despite not having time to work on my own projects or focus on building my practice, I’m at peace. Psalms 23 reminds me that my steps are protected, and goodness follows me. That reassurance is everything. I’ve also been reflecting on James Clear’s insights about life feeling reactive, but in actuality, it is predictive.
He argues that our actions are best guesses and are often influenced by our perceptions of past events, whether those perceptions are grounded in reality or not. He also touches on desire—that gap between where we are now and where we want to be. It’s a powerful reminder to keep striving, even when the path feels uncertain.
Today, while reading The Roll Model, I was inspired by a story of a woman living with Lupus. Her journey included surviving an abusive home, leaving a bad marriage, raising two children, and managing her health challenges. Through every hardship, she stayed positive and found solutions, pulling herself up by her bootstraps. Her inner light shone through every dark place in her life, and now she thrives. Stories like hers remind me of the resilience we all have within us and encourage me to keep going, even on the hard days.
While I didn’t get to focus on my personal goals today, I’m filled with gratitude. My family is healthy, and I’m feeling better than I have in quite some time. Life is full, unpredictable, and sometimes tiring, but it’s also rich with purpose. I’ll keep walking in righteousness, knowing the reward is worth it.
